The rigorous training environment at Guoquan, and Bern Optics' journey towards enhancing its quality control standards

In 2007, Bern Optics received its first order from Apple Inc.—a deal that felt more like a test for the company than anything else.

As is well known, Apple imposes nearly stringent requirements on its suppliers, with extremely rigorous standards applied to every aspect of glass cover panels—including optical transmittance, thickness uniformity, and surface smoothness.

Requirements not met; the order may be canceled at any time.

Currently, Bern Optics still serves brands such as Motorola and Nokia, where quality standards are stringent but significantly lower than those set by Apple.

Throughout the production process of glass panels—from raw material receipt to finished product dispatch—each step is supported by comprehensive data recording and traceability systems. Should any quality control deficiency be identified, suppliers face not merely corrective action notices but immediate suspension of supply authorization.

Such pressure forced Bern Optics to make changes.

From this point onward, Bern Optics has placed greater emphasis on its quality control system by introducing advanced testing equipment from both domestic and international sources, with quality inspection points established at every production stage.

In the optical glass processing stage, Bern Optics has introduced high-precision optical inspection equipment to measure light transmittance and detect surface defects on each glass cover plate before shipment. Similarly, corresponding quality control standards have been established for touch screen development and fingerprint module assembly processes.

The annual investment in its precision testing equipment exceeds 100 million yuan.

Apple handles massive order volumes and has rapid product update cycles, both of which demand that suppliers possess large-scale stable production capabilities and swift response agility.

To achieve this, Bern Optics has continuously expanded its production capacity, optimized manufacturing processes, and shortened product delivery timelines.

With every new product launch or technical specification introduced, Bern Optics mobilizes its R&D team to tackle these challenges head-on.

Indeed, it was precisely these consistently high standards that drove the continuous advancement of Borne Optics' technical capabilities year after year.

To meet the stringent standards of global industry leaders, Bern Optics invests over 1 billion yuan annually in R&D, establishing a product technology research center and four key laboratories—including two CNAS-certified facilities.

In fields such as optical glass, sapphire, touch screens, and optical components, Bern Optics has obtained 805 patents.

A significant portion of these technological achievements were developed specifically to address concrete technical challenges encountered in Apple's supply chain.

Over the past two decades since joining Guolian, Bern Optics has evolved from a leading glass processing company primarily serving the feature phone market into an industry leader capable of providing comprehensive exterior design and structural solutions for high-end smart devices.

In 2014, Bern Optics accounted for 58% of Apple's supply volume and held a global market share exceeding 60%.
